These very pretty cookies were made for a neighbor's party, but we did keep a few for ourselves. I admit, I was in a rush when I made them, and the thought of rolling out the dough and then adding sprinkles almost had me in tears.
The recipe is just a regular old sugar cookie recipe - with the sprinkles mixed right into the dough. One bowl, one small mess.
Instead of rolling out the dough, I made little dough balls, like meatballs but delicious in a whole different way. Then I used my palm to flatten them out because using the bottom of a glass to flatten them would have made one more dirty cup for the sink and no one has time for that.
The cookies baked really nicely, without spreading too much - I believe the secret to that is to chill the dough before baking, or rather chill the dough and totally forget about it until your neighbor who has been patiently waiting for the promised cookies texts you something like: NO pressure, just wondering if you were still able to make the cookies or if I should just run out to the bakery?
Argh!
It's a good thing these bake quickly.
