I recently came across this blog called 100 days of real food that I have been reading and trying to understand. And then, last night, I had a long conversation with my good friend (who, if you have been following along, will remember as Moldie) about her recent switch to clean eating. Yeah, I didn't know it had a name either, but it does. And it basically adheres to the principles set forth in the 100 days of real food blog.
So to start us off on this slow journey of purging the garbage and chemicals from our kitchen, we have started to make smoothies - but the healthy kind, not the kind loaded with ice cream, although I do love me a good chocolate milkshake.
This morning I made myself a protein smoothie for breakfast. If you want to know the truth, I had always thought only weirdo health nuts who like lifting weights bought protein powder. But if Moldie buys it, it must be okay. She's not a weird health nut - at least not yet, right Moldie? Right?
I followed her recipe for a morning smoothie, except I forgot to buy frozen strawberries or raspberries. I also forgot to buy fresh ones. So basically, I had no fruit to work with. I left the fruit out and it was still very good - and I'll just have to make a trip to the Farmer's Market* later today for a fruit fix.
3/4 cup almond milk
1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder
4 ice cubes
1 tbsp peanut butter
Mix all of the ingredients in a blender for 20 seconds. Pour into a glass and drink. I used a straw to make it more fun. It's been an hour since I had it and I'm still stuffed. You wouldn't think, cause it's just a drink, but it seems to be working. Must be all that protein.
And if I ever find my camera, I'll show you the how-to...
*Don't worry, I haven't completely lost it yet. It's not a real farmer's market. It's a fruit store named Farmer's Market. I highly doubt any farmers have ever set foot in this store.
