Were we on vacation? Nope.
Were we busy doing stuff way more fun than blogging? No again.
Were we super busy doing cool projects that we can share this week. Nada.
We were busy learning a lesson*.
And what lesson was that*, you ask?
Excellent question. The lesson was a doozy, so here goes:
If you drink bath water, which might as well just be called tushy water, you will get Coxsackievirus** - yeah, it's one word, I checked. And then you will spend an entire week crying, kvetching and being held by mommy. You will also spend an entire week being unhappy, unfriendly and generally unfun.
And mommy? Oh yeah, she will spend an entire week unable to type, cook or fold laundry. An entire week unable to share anything, blog anything or drink anything without being scared that someone with cockasackie first drank from the cup.
Thankfully the week is over and we are somewhat back to normal.
The first thing - after cleaning up a house that has been neglected for a
week - will be to make chocolate frozen yogurt pops. Not that I am so enamored
with frozen yogurt pops or anything, it's just that this morning I noticed the
open container of Greek yogurt in the fridge that we used to make the strawberry
frozen yogurt pops and if there's one thing that I really don't like, it's food
that goes bad. So before that yogurt goes south, we'll be trying yogurt pops
again - and the vote went to chocolate this time. We'll see what happens.
*Actually, there were two lessons. The second lesson is one that my
two year old is still processing, evidenced by the fact that she repeats it many
times a day.
This past Friday we made it out of the house to Walmart to get a
few things we really needed, like bins, so we could sort through the mountains
of clothing all over the attic. Anyway, because my boys have been so good about
going in the pool in camp even though they were not thrilled (an understatement)
with the idea, they were due a prize. They really wanted watches - and when we
found Spiderman and Transformer ones for less than $7 in Walmart, how could I
not, right? The little girl was with me and wanted a princess one. Fair enough.
And then, at the checkout line, she also wanted a KitKat bar. No M&Ms. No a KitKat bar. No M&Ms. She wanted chocolate. So I said, okay, you can have
chocolate or you can have a watch. She chose the chocolate. We paid, she ate the
chocolate in the car. And when we got home, she asked for her watch. I explained
that she chose chocolate instead of a watch. And now the chocolate was gone and
maybe a watch would have been a better choice. And after repeating this lesson
for a thousand times, I think she is might be starting to understand it. Maybe.
**I'm thinking of having that quote framed and hung in the bathroom..."
